As athletic conferences go, Hokie fans would be at a big disadvantage...
...with either the SEC or the B1X because we would be on the geographic edge of either conference, where we are pretty darn close to the center of the ACC footprint. Those conferences have some advantages over the ACC now:
The SEC gets a lot more money with their ESPN/SECN contracts, but that gap should be closed significantly with the ACCN coming online. Other than that, don't know of any specific advantage the SEC has over the ACC. I'm sure there's something, but nothing comes to mind.
The B1X has a much better academic sharing arrangement. They seem to like working together, where the ACC schools seem to take more of a "me first" approach, especially the "blue bloods" of the conference. We have some individual sharing agreements, but nothing like the B1X.
